Carlos Whittaker is in the house!!!!

January 26, 2010 1 comment

So today I just wanted to send out a special invite for one of the most passionate men I know. Carlos hails from the west coast where he spent 10 years as the Worship and Creative Arts Pastor. More recently he has spent the past 3 years at Buckhead Church, working with Andy Stanley in the Atlanta area. But his story goes far beyond his “jobs” in church… Carlos is someone that understands innately what it means to bring people to worship, whether through times when he’s leading worship at a church, through his coaching network, helping other creatives reach new levels in success in crafting environments for worship, Or through his writings on ragamuffinsoul.com. I chose today to give him a shout out however, because today is a special day to him. Today marks the release of his EP on itunes! I wanted to give you all a chance to grab a copy of it, and make it yours! I’ve already listened through it and I’ll tell you it’s worth WAY more than the money… So HERE’s the iTunes link, check it out and pick it up! Let me know what you think!!! Los is a great man, who I’m sure would always love to make a new friend or 2. He’s got a video introducing the EP on his blog HERE, but this video found a special place in my heart the first time I saw it and I had to put it in here.. Enjoy!

Monday Morning… Let’s get this done!!!

So I took a little bit of a break from doing any writing this weekend, once again, just in preparation of this upcoming week, I’ve got a TON of stuff that I’m really excited to share with you as the week progresses and I’m counting on you to help me spread the word and share the love. First of all I’ve been working with a few amazing people to help bring my blog to where I’d like it to be, design wise, and ability wise. This has caused me to spend the past week and a half or so spending time digging in, learning code, asking people to help on coding that I don’t know (which is almost all of it…) But all and all, it’s finally all fallen together and over the next few days you’ll see some drastic changes on it, including a new domain. 😉 ALSO, I’ve been working on a couple of other websites, one of which will be announced, hopefully, Wednesday morning, with the others coming up soon as well. So for now, consider this an update, but get ready for some awesomeness that I’m extremely excited about this week! I’m excited to see where it’ll go from here! 🙂

When we have no where to go but forward…

January 22, 2010 1 comment

I wouldn’t say that I’ve hit bottom, or even thought about hitting bottom. It’s been an interesting, growing, couple of weeks, but my resolve today is even greater than it was a few short weeks ago, and possibly has ever been before. I’ve been arguably busier over the past 3 weeks than I have been for months, and between the short struggles, I’ve seen more of the worlds color than I ever thought I’d get the opportunity to see. I love seeing what God’s doing in my life, and it’s been a much needed time for me to take a look at my current place in life and figure out exactly what He’s calling me to next. Between developing the ideas, materials, and systems for Media Procast, getting ready for a total blog makeover, contacting churches around the country, and reaching my own personal breaking point and driving through it in my personal studies, I’ve seen more of myself than I ever thought possible. There have been times that I feel like I’m in one of those crazy mirror houses you see at the fair, and can see every flaw I have, as well as some that I would have before distinguished as flaws that I now consider strengths. Then there are other times, where I feel like I’m standing on the top of a mountain, surrounded by clouds, where I can see nothing of myself or the world around me, and I’m almost in a haze from it. I’m excited about the possibilities I have in front of me, and I am at the point where I truly believe that HE is in control and not me. It’s been scary, but at the same time, it’s refreshing to know that He’s got a plan for all of this, and that I get to spend this time in crazy compassionate driven worship towards him, and learning more about his plan every single day. As I always seem to challenge you I want to challenge you today, to let down your guard, and trust Him to what His best and His plan for your life would be. I’d be willing to bet it’s even better than you could imagine!

Thursday Check Up!

Alright guys, well it’s been a hectic week… I honestly don’t know where to begin. Let’s see…

– I’ve done some extreme soul searching to figure out exactly where God wants me, and I’m beginning to really dig into some ideas and items I never thought would happen so we’ll see! It could make for some VERY interesting blog posts down the road.

– I’ve been working tirelessly with a team of amazing web/design/photo gurus to put together a new blog, which I’ll be launching in the VERY near future… Don’t worry… It’s worth the wait. 😉

– Getting the final information together for Media Procast, you’ll see something about that in the next day or 2 so be ready!

– Been bouncing yet some other web development ideas around with some people, creating engaging content online is something that I’m becoming increasingly interested in and would almost say passionate about.

– Feel like I’m getting closer to the end of the tunnel than I have been in years. Looking forward to stepping out into the light of day again… I actually feel like I’m beginning the pursuit of things that I never even dreamed would work but well.. might actually…work!

– Getting ready to hopefully spend some time this weekend with one of the church plants that I’ve had the opportunity to see blossom and begin affecting their community. Love the team that’s down there getting it done in downtown Richmond.

– Next passion… Church Plants, enabling, equipping, networking, and helping them to reach their communities in new, unique, and engaging ways. How to develop it though… Thinking on this one a bit…

– Alaska, Chicago, Florida… That’s all I’m saying at the moment… Put a little prayer in it for me. 😉

Church… Activity or Culture?

January 20, 2010 2 comments

Growing up I went to a reasonably stereotypical Southern Baptist church… We had our “contemporary” service early, and in a different room than the “sanctuary”, we had our Wednesday night potluck and business meeting, and everything happened according to plan. We even had the annual youth ski trip, where at least 1 person would end up with a broken bone. It was good, we were happy. We had our group of friends, and knew the schedule… But as I grew older, and more than that when I was living in Lynchburg, going to Liberty U. something in me changed. I grew this need to constantly and fervently be somehow finding ways to worship and be engaged in “church”. I had this idea that “church” was something you did, and that if you wanted to become closer to Christ you had to find ways to do more of it. So I did… I wrote a blog post about “Satisfaction in God” which you can read HERE, but this post I want to do something a little different.  When you read Acts you’ll notice that the early church “did” church but it never became an “activity” to them… It was their culture. They took care of each other, lead each other, stretched each other, and were able to grow and spread rapidly. What if we as Christians stopped looking at what we had to DO for our church and allowed ourselves to become wholly surrendered to God and to living a life of Christ and with him. This is the point at which we break through and church becomes, not an activity, but a culture. What would it take for your church to stop having activities, and start building culture?
